I've researched all types of shorties for quite some time and to my knowledge there has only been 1 person that had a bad experience with them. They will definately not net you the performance gain of mid length or long tubes but to me they are a good compromise for the person keeping emission time in mind. All the shorties out there are a direct replacement for the stock manifolds and are 50 state legal. To some this is not important. To others it is everything. I'm a conservative street guy looking to add as much performance to my car but within certain limits. I don't want to compromise driveability or have to deal with failing the emissions test so I do as much as I can keeping this in mind. I have no problem paying $600 for shorties even though the performance gains aren't equal to the other headers out there. So if you're from the same school of thought as me then the hookers or JBAs will do you well. I've rambled on enough but hopefully I gave you a few things to think about. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> With that said, i've received many e-mails from people who are happy with their shorties. Good luck.

I bought a set of used Hooker shorties. The pass side has a 2in opening in the collector and the drivers side has a 21/4. I ported the drivers side to 21/2 since the pipe thats welded to the flange is 21/2 and the flange is 21/4 its easy to mod this side. On the pass side the pipe going to the flange is only 2in so I took a thick flat piece of steel and drilled holes so I could bolt the header to it. Then I welded a bracket that bolted to the collector to that piece of steel. I then cut the flange off and cut the hole out to 21/2. Took the flange, header, and jig to a muffler shop and they cut the 2in pipe off the header and welded in a 21/2 pipe for $40. If you go with Hooker shorties I would have them moded. With a 2in opening I don't see much gain over stock. I don't have any dyno# but got a good SOTP, car got louder and can no longer floor it in first without tires going up in smoke.

I gained 0 HP on the dyno and saw no ET reduction at the track when I added the Hooker shorties to my '98 T/A.
