Default headers

I am about to buy headers for my car. The only thing I have done to it is an MTI lid and descreaned the mass air flow sensor. I am wanting to buy headers and I have been thinking about FLP's. If anyone has any suggestions about which long tube headers I should buy please let me know.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Hooker longtubes. They're $580 shipped from Jet-Hot. Doesn't include a y-pipe, Hooker is still working on that. Looks like it's going to be $170 for an off-road version.

What I like about them is that I can do what I want with the exhaust after that and not pay for something I don't need. I'll probably do a couple RT cats after the headers, then into a custom y-pipe if Hooker doesn't have their's soon. Maybe a cutout and McCord Power Plate so I can be quiet or f'n loud

Just got the Hooker LT's in today. I don't want to wait for the Hooker y-pipe so I think I'm gonna get a custom one, no cats obviously!!

I have the same setup as you: 2000 WS6 with MTI lid. I just ordered the SLP LT headers, cats, and y-pipe. I can't give you concrete data to make your decision easier, but I can tell you some of the info I found out.

After doing some research and posting some questions on this site I was convinced that the FLP's and the SLP's were probably the best headers available. I contacted both companies and this is what I found out:

FLP:
- headers are made from mild steel and are ceramic coated
- FLP ships the headers out to a company to be coated
- FLP does not warranty the ceramic coating, the company that aplies the coating to the headers does. This means that if you have a problem you do not deal with FLP, you deal with the other company!
- 2 1/2" y-pipe

SLP:
- headers are made from 409 stainless steel and are ceramic coated
- 3" y-pipe
- you have to install the headers, cats, and y-pipe at the same time. The headers are not compatable with the stock cats. (So compare the price of all these parts with the price of FLP's header package)

My opion on FLP is that maybe they're good headers, but if you scratch them during install they'll probably start to rust. Whereas, if you scratch the SLP's during install they won't rust because they're stainless steel. In addition, SLP's sales staff seemed much more professional and knowledgable. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask about their ceramic coating warranty.

Other info that I got from this site is that the SLP's are harder to install and they hang lower, which may be a problem if you're going to lower your car. Someone from this site mentioned that the SLP's seem to make power in the mid-range while the FLP's seem to make power through out the power band. How much power do these headers make and which one will gets you down the quarter mile quicker, I DON'T KNOW.

Take this info with a grain of salt. I'm just a novice when it comes to making horsepower and I haven't even installed my headers yet.

I hope this helps or at least promps you to ask more questions

Thanks for the help. I am going to buy flp as soon as I get paid. Also I have been told that they are on backorder is that true or what.

They are always back ordered.

I have the FLP's and love them. They give a noticable hp increase.
SLP's are very good too.I stayed away because of ground clearence issues.
