Why should I pay that much for "Name Brand"?
I know that this Question has been asked and answered a million times, but its my turn. Alright so Im cheap! but I do have a valid Question? I realy dont think that I will ever run enough HP through this car to go 10 sec in the quarter. However, I would like that "Classic Muscle car" sound, instead of Bitch Farting into a pillow sound I have now. So, Why shouldn't I pay $500-$800 dollars LESS!! for a set of MAC, Hooker's or flow tech's headers (as long as there ceramic coated) when I know they will sound awesome. Than pay $1100-$1300 for the SLP or FLP brand. Not to offend any one I realize that these are the Ideal product for someone looking to run a 10 sec car, but I am not.
Well I think I just answered my own question but please give your input! As always, it's much appreciated!
oh and much props to Don! on his "true dual" set-up I might be Following you SOON! <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />
It's all about what you want out of the car. What are your goals? If your goals consist ONLY of 'I want my car to sound cool', then no, the extra money isn't worth it. I don't think anyone here could hear the difference between a set of Macs or a set of FLPs.
Like I said, it all depends on what you want to get out of the car. Personally, I'm looking to get the most out of it. Sound is secondary in this case (to me, the sound difference isn't nearly as radical as just changing/deleting the muffler or cats can be). I'm looking to get the most power. Am I gonna run 10s? Hell no (would be nice though). I plan on doing at least a cam, and probably heads in another year or so. I don't want to be holding back my setup. I plan on running in the high 11/low 12 range. The money I don't spend on cheaper headers will have to be spent elsewhere for that missing power then.
So back to you, if you plan on keeping a stock engine, and don't particularly care about track times, then a set of expensive longtubes is not worth it to you. The power differences between a set of Macs and a set of FLPs on a stock engine are minimal on the old butt dyno, most likely, regardless.
Get a set of coated Macs and be happy <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
