Default Which catback or is cutout best?

I have spent several hours on various fbody and ls1tech related websites last few days and i can't find any catback comparo articles other than the relative loudness/fit of various systems. I was leaning toward throwing on a loudmouth but the cutout is attractive because of the bang for buck. It would seem that the cutout should produce better RWHP results than any catback because of lowest restriction(no muffler). The only dyno result I read of a cutout showed a 10hp gain which seems low since most catbacks seem to be in the 12-17hp range and incorporate a muffler. On my moderaltely modded 94 vette I replaced the mufflers with straight pipes, maybe 50.00 vs 1000.00 for a B&B CB.

For the most part, any of the mandrel bent catbacks for these cars flow very well. The diffence is in your preference for looks and sound.

My suggestions:

Whisper (if you can fine one)
SLP 2OTL
SLP Dual Dual
Corsa

I gained about 20 HP with my cutout, Why sped the $ on a cat-back when you can get better performance from the cutout, mine cost $60 installed.

I am going to have a dual-dual catback system soon again with a cutout...

I am going to do a before and after dyno...

A cutout is, by far, the cheapest route you can take. If that's all you're looking for, then keep your stock catback. I was wanting a quiet system that flowed well; the cutout only accomplishes one of these. I've track-tested my SLP dual/dual vs. the cutout three different times with no reduction in ET and no gain in MPH. It seems to flow really well.

On a stock car, you're going to see minimal differences between the cutout and a good flowing system (SLP DD for example). Once you start making more power, the power differential between the cutout/catback will grow. Ya can't beat a cutout, cheapest (by FAR), fastest, and loudest. Some people just don't like the loudness unfortunately, that's the only downside. If you like it loud, then it's really a no-brainer.
