Default Exhaust system questions

If some one would help me out I would really appreciate it. I'm thinking about buying my
friends 02 Z28 and was wondering what the deal is with the exhaust
set up.

One long question, the stock system comes back from the exhaust
manifolds to one pipe going into the cat and then to the muffler and
then two pipes come out the muffler to each side? right? Or do the
pipes come back from the headers, two cats and then to one muffler
(Y-pipe), and then splits out of the muffler?

Thanks so much!

the factory exhaust on ls1's goes as follows manifolds then cats then y-pipe then intermediate pipe then muffler then out as two on opposite sides if you want to get an exhaust for it get a hooker cat back everyone that has it loves it except for the tips that tend to rust but few coats of clear coat inside and out and rust shouldn't be a problem

SO Hooker is the way to go huh? Wasn't their asking price about in the range of $250-$300?

So you don't like Borla or SLP?
Just curious, this is some hard earned bones for a college kid to be spending on a car and then adding to it, just wanted to be sure my money was spent well on the exhaust system, the car is money well spent no problem there.
Thanks

I had a borla catback when I was stock, and loved it. I think it is the best sounding catback there is. However after I got the headers, y-pipe with no cats and cam, my exhasut got really loud and had a bad resonace around 2200-2500 rpm. So I switched over to the Hooker exhaust. It is much more quite then the borla and eliminated the resonance that is common when adding aftermarket headers and deleteing the cats. You can't beat the Hooker for the money IMO. I only lost 6rwhp running through the muffler as compared to bypassing it. Another great thing is you can remove the hooker muffler in a minute at the track for a weight savings of ~23lbs.

Sorry for the long response, I am doped up pain medication.

Hooker is a good value and everyone says it sounds great with no rasp or drone when running no cats. I can’t speak on personal experiences with Hooker cat-backs as I’ve never had one.

But I can tell you that SLP 2OTL is the lowest priced stainless steel cat back w/ muffler on the market (LM is cheaper but it has no muffler), also provides a rasp and drone free exhaust note when running an off road pipe, and will flow just as good (or possibly better) than any other cat back offered. It is $400 from SLP. I have it and I love it. I’ve owned 3 different cat-backs on LS1s so far and 2OTL is my favorite.
