Default Is it worth it to install the ASP pulley myself?

I've been looking back and found posts talking about leaking crank seals, having to put a screwdriver between the flexplate and convertor, and engines getting KR and the pulleys not dampening enough. Makes me wanna just let one of the sponsors do my install. I haven't bought any tools yet, so which will be the easiest? TIA

Yes, it's worth doing yourself if you use the proper tools.

I own the GM tools for the job.

Never had a crank seal leak, and the tools have been used on 20 cars.

I have removed and installed 4 different pullies on my car and never had a crank seal leak.

The install is very simple, just takes a little elbow grease. Get yourself a 3 jaw puller(not to big), and a Tq wrench that can reach 250 ft lbs. Thats the 2 big main tools you will need. There are install documents everywhere on this, and if you can't find any drop me an email and i'll be happy to run through the steps with you...

i agree. do it yourself. has anybody found a balancer bolt that is longer to use to get the pulley off instead of prying? that would be SO much easier.

Do it yourself. Here is a trick I used to get the pulley all the way off. The stock balancer bolt will only allow you to pull the pulley so far off. I used a 1 1/4 socket and the 3 jaw puller sat in the 3/8 drive perfect. The pulley came right off, no prying or tapping. Make sure you use plenty of oil on the seal itself and the pulley surface when reseating the ASP pulley. No crank seal leak so far (knocking of wood). Make sure you have a cheater bar, the torque specs of 37 ft lbs and then an additional 140 degrees is almost 300 ft lbs <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> .
