Now, don't quote me on this but I received an email deep from within Holley headquarters that had some very peculiar information...

Its seems that Holley is doing groundbreaking genetic research in an attempt to combine the DNA of the aluminum Holley intake and the DNA of the highly intangible Hooker Y-pipe to create...

THE MOST ELUSIVE PERFORMANCE PART KNOWN TO MAN!!!!!!!

I can't post the dyno numbers because I can't find the damn things but I when I went from a stock LS1 intake to an LS6 intake I gained 17 RWHP's. When we took the LS6 off and put the Holley on I got another 7 RWHP's. Is it worth it? I'm still debating that question. It does get hot, haven't tried the ice trick yet. Last weekend I ran a 7.834 @ 87.5 MPH with a really bad 1.732 60ft. I had the manifold port matched to the heads, all the flashing removed and polished at the TB port. I'm thinking of putting te LS6 back on and sending the Holley out again for some major runner polishing and see what happens.

i always thought that this al. intake was identical internally to an ls6, thought that was publicly known.. holley just made an aluminum one with removable bottom specifically for porting. ..that just putting it on would do no good what so ever.

aluminum is great at transferring heat. the reason it heats up the air quickly in the intake is because it transfers it from the heads. yes it is helping cool the heads, but it is also heating the intake charge.
the reverse happens with an aluminum intercooler. air flys through it, and across it. dramatically changing the temperatures inlet vs outlet. the air going across it gets proportionally hotter with respect to air mass flow. if it took a long time to heat up air as stated previously, then intercooling would do nothing.

the plastic manifolds just do not transfer heat well.. same reason carb (&5.0) guys run phenolic spacers.. because it does not transfer the heat.
yes this means the heads will stay hotter but also means the intake charge will stay cooler, wich is IDEAL for any combustion engine.

i also think the ceramic coating expense will outweigh the minimal return.

i did a project on my supercharged 95 formula concerning the ideal gas law and the results agree with the math.

I agree with everything MIGHTYMOUSE said.

Also having the heads hotter is a good thing for power but increases detonation... two exact head castings with the same port sizes, one being out of Al and the other being out of iron, the cast iron will make more power because the combustion temps are higher due to the cast iron retaining more heat however as i am sure you know you can't run as much timing with a cast iron head as you can with Al for the same reason....

Not to flame, but ONLY 7rwhp over the LS6, WITH port matching?!?! So the price of the intak, and the price of the porting for 7rwhp, that may go down to 2 rwhp on the next run because of heat soak. Once again, it looks as though we need a test of this intake on a BIG ci high revving motor.
Again, no flames, please let us know how it does with more porting work.
