Default Charging system question

Ok, I just had a new power steering pump and alternator put on my car at the local dealer. (yes, the dealer. I bought an extended warranty with my car) Im driving around and everything is fine. Then I notice my voltage is rather low (around 10-11volts) What could be the problem? The battery is an Optima redtop, and the alternator is a brand new ac delco.

If the charge is really low, not just a faulty gage, it could be the belt slipping, bad alt (have it tested - even new ones can be bad), bad battery, loose connection to battery, alt or ground...

Well tongiht the voltage dropped quickly while driving and the car stopped being able to run. I'm guessing the battery is dead. My question now is what killed it? It was toed to the dealership and I will findout tomorrow.

On the alternator has a big electrical plug in and a one wire plug in. The one wire is easily broken, and if it is the battery will not charge.
