straight headers?
straight headers? guys i was wondering if i was to put longtube headers on and have no exhaust after it, how much modification i would have to do to run it, how insanely loud will it be, and horsepower gains? the car is my daily driver but i only commute like 10 miles, i dont mind it being loud, but i want it at like 1500-2k RPM to be tolerable to like listen to your music. and also will it be raspy and not sound good? im just trying to think off different exhaust combos, i was thinking of a cutout that will bypass mufflers but would still be loud and only give minimal gains, so if its going to be loud it might as well gain some good power. also i have no emmisions to pass. will deleting both cats interfere with the way the car runs? will there be excess heat under the car where the headers dump? i would also plan on getting a handheld programmer to delete CEL codes and maybe to tune the car a little. just wanting your guys opinions on the matter, thanks.

It will be loud. LOUD. My open headers made my radio, cell phone, and in car conversations useless for two days. People are different but I couldnt stand to commute with open headers.
I doubt the gains of open headers over a cutout would be that much more.

If your dead set on running just headers you should really get a cam first or it will sound lame. I would at least recommend running some sort of bullets off the headers, it wont kill your performance and it will still sound sweet. That with some turn downs so you dont kill yourself with carbon monoxide. Everything will work fine though.
I started my car open headers after my header install and it scared the **** out of me how loud it was. I couldn't imagine driving around like that. You're better off having a properly set up true dual setup.
I ran around open headers for 4 days starting last Saturday. While it may be tolerable if it were a track only car, if I lived close to the track, it was fun for a little while but got old very fast. The car rattled, radio was worthless, had to drive with the windows open to save my brain from the drone, really sucked leaving a friend's house at 1:00 am and leaving for work at 6:15 am, and trying to avoid waking the neighbors.
Definately get some type of exhaust on it.
If you're going to run for any length of time with open headers, extend the length and maybe put turn-downs, so the outside air doesn't mess with your O2s. Mine sometimes idled really low.

yea i figured it might be to loud, ill look into a true dual setup when i goto a muffler shop, i had another question too, in the future i was planning on getting a STS rear mount turbo, does it matter what exhaust you have ie: Y pipe, X pipe, H pipe, does it even matter which you have when running the rear mount turbo? So what about headers into true duals with the dynomax bullet mufflers? how will that sound and how much HP? when i had my LT1 i cut the cat out and had flowmasters on it and when i reved it up it was raspy and i hated the rasp, but it sounded mean at idle, wat could i expect on a ls1 with headers true duals and bullet mufflers?

Don't run open headers like that. First: too damn loud - at any RPM. Second: That isn't good for your engine. With a setup like that your exhaust valves are going to be exposed to colder temperatures than the rest of the block. Cold air from the outside will go up the header and hit the exhaust valve. There isn't enough pressure coming out to stop it. Exhaust valves will warp. Also, that much lack of back pressure will take your Horsepower way down. It will do the opposite of what you expect. You need some back pressure against the exhaust valves, especially with a stock internal engine.

I ran LT headers into an ORY and that's it for about nine months on my car when it was daily driven. Yes it's loud but it's really not as bad as you'd think. Now after I put a cam and such in then it go way to loud.
Open headers just sound like a tractor plowing up the roadway. sounds like ***, and on heavy modded cars running larger overlapped cams....you get yours in the end.
