Installed Hooker Lt's..car backfires now....
plugs #1 and #5 Looked brand new, never used.
plugs #3 and #7 very sootie, almost looked wet
Plugs #2 #4 #6 #8 had soot on them. They looked worse than the ones that were taken out during the header install.
There was no anti sieze on the plug tips. Why plugs #1 and #5 looked brand new, I don't know. Please continue with your input with this.
Thanks
Thanks
<strong>Since the spark plugs only need 11 lbs ft on TQing, why would you put anti-seize on them? </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I take it youve never had the peasure of removing a spark plug and seeing the threads from the head still attached to it. Aluminum will do that sometimes.
(Remember, the backfiring, and inconsistent coloration of the plugs are occuriing on the driver side of the engine)
Code P0300 appeared again, P0134 did not. We checked to insure the wires were installed securely, and started the car again. The SES lite came on. Another code P0300!
Jason has a '98 WS6 with MSD wires so we replaced my #1 and #5 wires with his. (Thinking my plug wires may be bad). Again, we started the car and the SES lite came on. Another P0300 code.
I took out the spark plugs and this is what I saw:
#1 plug clean
#3 plug soot
#5 plug clean
#7 plug semi-sootie
My question: Do I have bad coil packs? If so, how can I check them to be sure before replacing it/them? What else may be causing the misfiring?
Your input is appreciated.

Jason and I will keep you posted on how this progresses. Thanks again for all your input, and especially to Jason.
Mike
...How are you making out? Haven't heard from you in a while. I have a few ideas that may eliminate that pesky misfire. Give me a call and I'll run them by you.
Jason
I took the coil packs to the dealer for testing, they were okay. I had the wire harness and plugs for the coil packs check by an electrician...everything okay there too. I then purchased 2 new O2 sensors...the misfire continues. I still do not have a Y pipe made. Could this be the cause of all this heartache? A damn pipe?
I have crawled over, under, around the engine compartment thinking the problem may be electrical. I can't find anything out of place, nothing!
I will get a Y pipe made up next, however, I will need to have the car towed to the muffler shop. What a PITA. If the problems persists after the Y pipe install, what else could I check? What????
Thanks
p.s. I made a custom y-pipe by using a SLP y-pipe and using some extentions to connect it to the headers. Lined up almost perfectly for me and just had to "puff" the pipe extentions from 2 1/2" to 3" to fit the collectors. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
