I'm in the same smog boat as you, I've had OFF-road x's and H's and catted maggie X's on my Cobra's, Mach 1 and 5.0's for years- but get tired of having to change them out to smog.
For my wifes 00' SS I decided to go with the Edelbrock Shorties to STOCK CATS with the Bassani True dual set-up.
Because the Duals are downstream of the stock cats, and the cat location is not altered because of the shorties, the dual set-up is technically California legal. I even spoke to the local Smog Referee about it- and its good as long as back pressure is OK and it will pass the sniffer test.
I have not installed my stuff yet so I dont know the gains, but this is what I got sitting on the garage floor.
