Default Help.. what intake to go with?

I been reading around trying to make up my mind on what do to about my stock 99 LS1 intake.. I was about to get an LS6 intake manifold from Cartek but i saw this sponsor on LS1.com that had the Holley Alum. intake for 499 and free shipping. What do you recomend? I've heard that the Alum. intake leaks?? is this true?? i saw a post with this on it around here... and that also takes away from low end power?

My car is pretty much stock execpt for a Lid,Cutout, Jet Hot LTs, Hooker ORY, Free mods...etc..
and i will be getting a cam soon...but no N2O..

Thanks

If you have a EGR tube you may want to be careful about the ls6 manifold. Not all ls6 manifolds have a place to connect the EGR.

The biggest advantage the aluminum intake has is it can be ported to flow more. But that's just about it. There have been sealing issues, heat issues, but still that is minor issues and can be fixed. The aluminum intake is a nice piece and can be polished whereas the ls6 can't. Some have painted the ls6. It's just a matter of personal preference. I myself will get the aluminum intake soon. Either intake will work well but is dependant on the cam you choose. The intake alone has no real benefit and since you are not shooting nos, you have unlimited potential with these intakes. This is one of those cases where bigger is better.

Go with the GM LS6 manifold not the aluminum style one. As said before there have been problems with the aluminum one with sealing and heat soak. Not to mention it weighs more than the GM piece. You can have a GM Ls6 manifold for around $400 shipped with new coolant pipes.

Durien,
Don't waste your time with the Holley, just get the GM LS6 intake. As ClassicCollector noted, the Holley is really only beneficial for port matching, etc. It has sealing issues and heat soak issues. Its hard to beat the GM LS6 intake for a street driven, 346" engine. Surprisingly, the best price I've seen continues to be from SLP plus it comes with the coolant lines: http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=30039

Has there been any more info released on the Vararam intake that's supposed to be coming out?
