Does a 160 thermstat really help make power?

Will a 160 thermostat affect your gas milage? Has anyone out there done this mod and if so what do you think? Any gains? any losses? :bang:

Re: Does a 160 thermstat really help make power?

I put a 160 degree thermostat and a SLP fan control switch in my car.
The combination of the two definitely helped my car run cooler, and I saw about a .1 gain at the track with it.
I'm not sure what the exact weather conditions were at the track before or after, but I do remember that neither time was real good for speed.

I have one, and I probably lost 1 to 2 miles per gal. but my engine runs quite a bit cooler, one I reprogramed the fans. if you do not do the fans you will see no real gains ( lower temps) now I did mine so I could do the 10% timing advance with the predator and not have to worry so much about predet here in the lovely :D south.

the engine need the heat for max mpg, but advanceing the timing = more hp :D
