Default PCV question...Long

Well i have a 04 sierra with around 42k on it.. 5.3

Right now i have a catch can and it does catch a nice amount of oil, thats not my problem. My problem is thought the puff that comes out under WOT.

I noticed tonight with a buddy behind me that when i went wot it blew some smoke out that i could see in the mirror ( he said he couldnt see anything) but he did smell some oil he said..

my motor in stock form has the vent tube on the back of the motor that runs to the upper intake with no PCV..Open system

Now i have it running to a catch can.

Would it be worth trying to vent system with a breather instead and see if it cures it, also it would keep all oil out the intake since a catch can i know isnt going to get everything.

So if i were to do that would i then cap off the intake put a breather on the back of the motor then put a breather where the oil filler cap is.

Thanks for any advice!

That vent tube that goes to the TB was probably the air intake, by putting it on your catch can you're not letting your crankcase breathe the way it should. You had another vent tube with a pvc valve on it too right?

Trucks are not setup like the cars..there is nothing on the TB only in the middle of the upper intake.

so my main question is would i be better off going to the metco breather on the passenger valve cover
capping off the intake
then putting another breather on the back of motor where it vents to the intake.

once again ill state though the trucks arent exactly like the cars..

they are supposed to have the improved open orifice style pcv but doesnt work like they thought..

all it is is nipple coming off the driver side valve cover with a hard tube then going to the middle of the upper intake..

nothing else besides that

I want to cap off the intake then add a breather on the driver and pass valve cover..

I have been thinking of doing something similar on my car. I have a catch can installed on the PCV line with the "improved" PCV downstream from the can. I'm thinking of capping off the TB and putting a breather on the valve cover.

This situation was being discussed in this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/613321-breather-unmetered-air.html. I didn't get a reply to my final post concerning what the 04BlackGmc and I are proposing ...
