Default Being cost effective?

Would it be wiser to take my production LS1 from my 2000 Trans Am and try to make the 800-900whp on pump... (real goal is 1000whp on pump)? Or! Get that new LSx block and turn it into a 511ci with a nasty set of heads/cam and a mild turbo setup? Doesn't have to be a 511 but something of that nature. A very large ci setup.

This is an idea for a build i'm trying to start in the next few months and let it go over the course of a year or so. But i'm trying to weigh the differences between me going completely overkill and doing things just right.

Keep in mind that I will be driving this thing every chance I get. It will see a TON of street driving.
