Default exhaust tick driving me NUTS

*background* I took the car in to be serviced at the dealership about 5 or 6 months ago per the "recall" letter stating that if the car is throwing a code for a malfunctioning cat, they will replace it... whatever. they said they replaced it and the light went away. shortly after i noticed this strange tick. Much like the sewing machine noise people get with a bent pushrod. Someone mentioned that it might be an exhaust leak however. I snooped around and found it was coming only from the right side of the car, up front where the cat is. i put 2 and 2 together and figured they didnt install it right. Took it back and they said it was my loudmouth exhaust leaking. I ******* hate dealerships because it is clearly the cat. not wanting to take it up the butt from them anymore, i left and here i am

anyone have any advice on taking out the cat and reinstalling it. will i have to break off any bolts. should i get a new one? should i take off the y pipe first, then the cat or what. i dont know where to start any help would be great.

The best solution is to remove them and be done with it.

Suck a little ATF into the engine through the PCV hose, the smoke will come out where the leak is. Then you know for sure exactly where it's coming from.

How the hell do you NOT install a cat correctly ? More than likely the jerk mechanic took your car to lunch & over revved it playing around. Did you check your mileage before & after you left the car at the dealer? If its not a exhaust leak & I bet its not , check your valve train assy. & pray its not a spun rod bearing.

see i was thinking it was a bent pushrod or something in the valvetrain.. but the engine sounds perfectly normal from under the hood.. the tick comes from under the car, it's very noticiable underneath, kind of noticable standing next to the car, and not at all from under the hood. however it is very loud upon revving or going uphill..

Did you send some ATF through it yet to find out where or if it is an exhaust leak?
