Default Header Gasket Choice with Kooks

A set of Kooks headers have just been delivered, and included is a set of gaskets labeled: Manufactured for Kooks Custom Headers by Percy's. The gaskets feel like a thin metal gasket covered on both sides with felt of some sort. The label also state : This material withstands long term exposure to over 2000degree F.

I'm not so worried about the temp rather the seal!

I assume these are not the seal-4-good gaskets by Percy's.

Should I use these gaskets or a stock set of GM multi-layered steel or the actual Percy's seal-4-good?

Those sound like the Percy's carbon gaskets. I have the aluminum ones. They make good stuff.

Thanks hammerhead, those XXCarbon ones are what were shipped to me (or something very close to it). Quite honestly though, these XXCarbon gaskets feel flimsy to me...but what do I know.

I only want to do this once, so it has to be right the 1st time around.

I'm thinking of going with the Seal-4-Good or Stock GM's - correct me of I'm wrong, but both of those choices are proven!

No problem. I had similar findings with my research. I think the aluminum ones are great. They're softer and thicker than the stock ones to make up for any flange irregularites, but they're still multi-layer solid metal. I don't have any experience with the carbons, but my aluminum ones have been on for a while now and the seals are perfect.

I just got some from Advance the other day (not sure what brand or anything), and one of them is leaking already. I just called the local dealer and ordered some OEM gaskets.

Well, I went and ordered a set of the Seal-4-Good's from ls1speed, they'll be here on Thurs.

So, anyone want a set of the XX Carbon ones? I have a new set of headers bolts for sale with the gasket also (I'm going to use ARP studs with the Kooks).
