I have a clamp that seems to be rattling against a heat shield where the exhaust goes over the axle. I have since had the exhaust welded. When i took it to get it welded i told the guy to just tack it, but he pretty much welded the thing about 90 percent around the pipe, so it looks pretty solid. Now, the pipe is slightly crushed from being clamped as well (just as always happens with those cheap u shaped clamps). Would there be any ill effects from removing this rattling clamp, since its pretty much welded all the way around the pipe.
why wouldnt you just have him weld it all the way so you dont need it anymore if he already did 90%...
i just said tack it. i looked at it when it was done and he took it off the lift. at that point it didnt seem appropriate to say, "i change my mind, put it back up there and weld that **** the rest of the way".
anyway, i didnt think it would matter much, and it didnt (no audible leak noises). i guess you really need to see what im talking about to understand better. the rattle didnt go away when i removed the clamp though, so ill throw it back on.
Unless you can hear the exhaust leak, it doesnt matter, I ran a good sized leak for a while before I even knew it was there, after that, I had them welded at a muffler shop for 50$. Just pull that SOB off
