cam question? hey wusup guys, i had a question for a cam for basically stock camaro 02 ss. i wanted to get the best cam thats smog legal, and i heard that a 224/224 114 would work. but does it matter what brand you get as long as its 224/224 114? i wanted a lopey cam
The main differences between some of the 224 cams are the lobes they are ground on. The TSP uses Comp XE-R lobes, which are a bit more aggressive than the ones on the TR224, and should offer slightly more hp/tq, but, it would be a negligible gain. Either one on a 114 has the chance to pass SMOG. Futral also has cams in this duration/lsa that you might look into as well.

o ok..well all i have done to my car is a slp loudmouth exhaust an a ported an polished tb..so really theres no way of my car to pass smog unless i get a 224/224 114 that doesnt really lope..do you know what cam that lopes preety good that will pass smog?

Verdad Gallardo Well it really depends on what YOU call "lopey". I can tell you that if you had an exhaust like mine, and the 224 on a 114, you would be able to hear some lope. It would be far from wild, but noticeable. Maybe install a cutout in your exhaust setup, so you can be stealth for inspection, and loud when you want to be.
Let me help you better understand why the cams that have a shot at passing emissions don't lope as much as others.....
What gives you lope is overlap. Overlap is when the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time during the given valve event. The more overlap you have, the more exhaust smell you get, which is of course going against the odds of passing SMOG.
Here is the formula to calculate overlap. Intake duration @.050 + exhaust duration @.050, / by 4, -LSA, X 2. The 224 on 114 would have -4 degrees of overlap.
Have you listened to some sound clips on ls1sounds? That can help you get an idea on what this cam would sound like.
