Default For those considering TD setup

If you are considering getting a TD setup, you should really read this post (the whole thing) by Patrick G. It has some very good information that questions the whole TD is better thinking. Either way, this is one area where design is very important.

I just read the “Exhaust selection” post, and I do not see where he questions whether dual exhaust is “better” than single exhaust. I think you are viewing that post through tinted glasses. Based on what I know about exhaust and my simple understanding of what Vizard has written on exhaust, I would say there is more than one way to skin this cat. You need properly designed/sized headers; scavenging; the required cross-sectional area (~0.019in^2/hp); smooth bends; and a good muffler(s). I would propose that the scavenging can be achieved with either a good merge or crossover. Also, cross-sectional area can be achieved with one big pipe or two smaller pipes.

I chose my exhaust to support ~500hp loss free. I am not putting down that power, but I wanted to leave room to grow. My exhaust consists of QTP headers; 3” high flow cats (~590cfm/cat); 2.5” mandrel-bent tubing leading to a very well designed Bassani crossover; then dual 2.5” mandrel bent tubing leading to a straight-thru type dual-in/dual-out muffler past the differential; then out under the bumper. I am not concerned in the least about this setup’s ability to handle 500hp with only negligible, if any, loss.

Like all mods it depends on the combo and what the intended use will be.

Most cars will not make use of the TD set up but I have seen big cube cars pick up over 40 Hp NA and right at 70 on nitrous.
