Default header install Question

Im am going to be ordering headers within the next week or 2 still debating which brand I only hear good thing about QTP but bang for your buck pacesetter. so i dont knwo im leaning toward qtp but the price. ANYWho how much clearence is needed to install a set of headers and ORY could I do it on jack stands in my drive way or is it near impossible? Ive heard both ways I dont see why it cant be done in the drive way but id figure id ask everyone there experiences with there header installs.

Jack stand in the driveway is for sure possible but do yourself a favor and get the extra tall stands. I did mine in the garage at home on regular smaller stands it it wasn't quite high enough to get the pass side in without having to remove the starter and raise the engine up. It would have made life much easier for my Kooks 1 7/8 LT install with the extra few inches for sure.

I'd do Poly or solid motor mounts at the same time just because the car will be 90% ready to install them when doing headers and after they are in you won't have to deal with banging Y pipe issues with poly or solids on the car.

Thumbs up Header install

i just installed my Armor Coated Pace Setter Headers on Sat....
my headers went in with one hand, and the other hand was used to install the header bolt. Never have i ever had headers go on so easy.
needless to say i love the fit of the Pace Setter headers.
also i have a 1 inch lowered car, and ground clearance on the collectors is perfect. hope to get some pics soon.
also i picked up the matching y pipe, and some O2 extensions and some, SS 3" band clamps.
set aside a little more time to get the ORY nice and tight fit.
i used a lift to install my headers and ORY, i have helped others install the headers in their garges, i would say a little more time will be needed. also
get the car as high as possible when installing the headers.
Good luck.

You're going to get almost every brand of header recommended to you. You can get Pacesetters for under 300 for painted ones or spend over 800 on Kooks or there's several good brands in betweein (jet hot, coated pacesetters, XS stainless steel, etc.) It just comes down to what metal you want the headers to be made of and how much you're willing to spend.

I have done many sets of Kooks headers on f-bodies. All were done in my garage on jackstands. You really don't need to get the car that high. Quality control on the pacesetters does not seem to be there. I have seen several sets so close to the oil filter that they put holes in them. That's why I will only install the Kooks.

Hey bud, read up on some of the XS headers threads that have been going around lately. I was a very skeptical person when I ordered them, but I tell you what after I got them and looked them over and got them installed... I def rec. them to everyone.

But as for the install... Soak all of your bolts with PB blaster two or three times before you start. This will make things so much easier on you. Take your time and don't get frustrated. Good luck!

you dont need tall jacks.

go to lowe's and have them cut up an 8 foot board of 2x10 in 1 foot sections

put 4 under each jack stand. They also work in place of jack stands, if put under the tires.

also, i have the QTP's and they fit pretty well. Had to grind the Kmember a bit though.

$40 can get you some nice rhino ramps which raised my car nicely in the rear
allowing me to jack the front up level at about 21-23 inches off the ground

gave me plenty of room for my install.

I ended up ordering QTP but there out of stock and there is a 4-6 week wait so itll give me plenty of time to get everything I need like O2 sims and maybe new O2 sensors, my car has over 90000 miles couldnt hurt to replace them thinking about bosch anyone had experiance with them?
