Backfiring after headers install?

Default Backfiring after headers install?

I just installed headers couple days ago and the TSP TD system was put on today. My car backfires when I give it too much throttle and it also pops at idle but not like a backfire. I put NGK tr55s and MSD wires in there too. My question is, is it because I need a tune and it's running too rich? or is it because one of my plugs might be cracked or dead? I tried a search and it didn't help much. Thanks in advance

Mine did this too. I ended up having a cracked plug.

i would check all your spark plugs and wires. installing headers will make the car run more rich than stock, but i doubt it would make it rich enough to backfire at idle. now on deccel thats another story..

Check the plugs and make sure the MSD's are all clicked properly. One click for the plug 2 for the coil pack. And make sure the boots are bent away from the header.

Ya if im going downhill and not on the gas my car will do a backfire type thing which i think its just bc im in need of a tune. As for you at idle ya something to due with spark.

Mine backfired letting off at higher rpms after I put my headers on. I had new o2s plugs, wires and it still did it. I got it tuned and found out it was running lean, after the tune the backfiring dissappeared.

Bet you did not have BOSCH 13111 o2's.

Check for a cracked plug, thats a common one during header installs. Dont listen to the "you need tuning for headers" nonsense.

i got the same problem... i think im too lean, but i put a cam in today and... some gears and.... got the converter sitten there so....im just gunna bring it to the tuner

If all the plugs and wires for sure.. also if its doing it when coasting it could just be DFCO.. Deceleration Fuel Cut Off. Its part of the factory tune.. basically the car cuts almost all fuel when you coast without touching the brake or gas. When you have stock manifolds and cats its not that noticeable but with LT headers and no cats it gets pretty loud popping.

$155 later I bet I did , I don't know how lean it was really running because I had the intake manifold installed at the shop I got the car dynoed at, so this may have caused it to lean out even more? But anyways they didn't even finish the first pull on the dyno cause it was running so lean. I guess every car is different.

This doesn't sound like the same scenario that I had though, cause mine didn't pop at idle just coming down off redline it shot flames out the tailpipes lol

could it be caused by the air leak that I have from the upluged hole after air removal (the one in air filter)?
