Default Kooks header question

I'm planning on buying Kooks LT Headers for my 01 SS and I was just wondering from people who have used them if I am going to need to get a custom Y made to fit with my SLP LM II or if they sell a Y-pipe that will fit.

When I was looking at Kooks headers, I recall that the Y-pipe was designed to bolt right up to the stock cat-back and similarly to the LMII. You should call Kooks to be sure at 631-586-9002.

yup.. the Y that I have bolts right up to a stock exhaust or any stock replacement setup like the LMIII. It fits tight to the body which is good for ground clearance but if you don't have poly or solid motor mounts it will bang away against the underside of the car.

Kooks with their catted y here goin to a LM2. Expensive but worth it. The Y pipe is great. No clearance issues under normal driving.

No clearance issues under any kind of driving. Okay, maybe off roading.

I remember when I put in the LMII we cut the pipe a little bit farther down. In the situation where I come up with mabye 1 or 2 inches short what do i need to do in order to make up for it? would I just add a small pice of 3" T-304?

Damn. I'm glad I picked up the Kooks. But seriously, Kooks Y-pipe is great. It's stainless steel and has great fitment and ground clearance. Worth every penny IMO.

just the Y but it's the CATS that are the real killer in the price here. Street legal is never cheap

I think its hit or miss. We have installed a few sets. Some are close to toching the Kmember. And needed to cut/grind a little off the Kmember. And the Kooks Ypipe being very close to the floor, you have to clamp heater hose to stop it form banging. This wasnt on 98s with 100K, that was beat. One was a 02 WS6 with like 5k miles.

But that's not street legal. Changing the location of cats is illegal too. Longtubes occupy the space where the cats would otherwise be, so all longtubes are illegal.

But we have ways around that.

You can't do anything about it "technically". Longtubes would have to have catted primaries.
