What is causing the problem? Basically, what part of the car is keeping you from installing the header? Something has to be blocking it. If we knew where the problem resided, we'd be able to help you a little better. A description or even better, a picture, would help.

Best advice I can give you without any info about your problem is to make sure the header is standing straight up and you have at least 3 feet of ground clearance.

Did you try loosening the mounts and shifting the engine a little bit? I can tell you on my header install, the engine was actually crooked in the stock mounts! The engine had to be realigned.

You get what you pay for..... sry (some people annoy me with statements like that) ... anyway, the only thing I could suggest would be a different angle. I was surprised how much I had to angle my headers to get them to slide in. I also had mine really close to the k-member, 3 inches sounds like alot but mine only needed a little suggestion to make room. Have you done poly motor mounts yet, that might be something to consider. Hope you get it figured out.

you have to take out both bolts and raise the motor straight up.. way up.. just keep an eye on the hose on the PS pump. it can easily come off and dump PS fluid all over.

I had the same problem with my 1 7/8's kooks. I ended up trying a bunch of wried angles and it went in.. seriously take the header completely out and try really strange angles and directions.. I think mine slipped in standing almost straight up.

When I had trouble with my 1 3/4 George told me that they are designed to go in vertically tilted 90 deg and then rotate it into place. I was not able to get the car high enough to do this so I ended up unbolting the motor mount and jacking the motor to tilt it a bit and was able to get mine in, since the stepped are a bit bigger you could unbolt the mount completely and slide it forward to get the clearance and then put it back. Good luck to you and I hope you get it in soon, I love my Kooks and am sure you will too.

I had to take the alternator out so I could get the motor mount main bolt out.. then I had to unbolt the motor mount that attaches to the frame.. then I got the header to fit in.... it was well yeah a major pain in the @$$!!! to much for a header!

but it's in and sounds good.

thanks for all the help everyone!

ooo yeah I was just wondering if anyont elses headers hit the K member? or under the the car its self..

Congrats' on getting it in there finally. Too bad you had a hard time. It seems like these cars are hit and miss.

I have QTPs and had to do a little grinding but I'm finding maybe I had a collapsed tranny mount. I also think the last time I unbolted the engine from the craddle I didn't leave in the same place I started.

I wouldn't be suprised if you had a clearance problem with the larger primaries. I do hope it works out for you though.

Good luck.

I have the 1 3/4 -1 7/8. All I do is turn the wheel all the way to the side, and make sure the car is jacked up real high, real high. You need a good angle to get it in there.

An easier way to would have been to drop the K member...works like a charm for my b/f who has done alot of header installs on f-bodies.

when we installed kooks on my friend 01 ss we unbolted steering linkage, loosened k member and used a pry bar between the k member for leverage. my buddy kicked the header right in from under the car while i pryed the k member up. as soon as it cleared, i ended up punching myself in the jaw on accident. lol
