Question exhaust problem quick question

I've got a 02 WS6 w/ a broken rear manifold bolt on the drivers side head . I've asked about removing the broken manifold bolt in here b4 but i was wondering if u guys removed it from the top or underneath the car. I plan on using a 90 degree drill w/ a left handed drill bit and a screw extractor if needed but is it easier to get to this problem from under the hood or under the car? I'm worried about having enough room because it looks awful tight in there especially w/ the steering coloum beside it .

Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I don't think you'd be able to get to much from underneath unless you remove your cats

the whole exhaust is coming off so cats are not an issue. the only reason im messing w/ the bolt is im putting on a set of Pacesetter LT's and ORY and have no way to tighten up the back part of the header flange w/ the bolt stuck in there

01ss----i found it easier to get to the drivers side bolts from the top with the car on the ground...also the same with the front 4 manifold bolts on pass side....the rear two had to be reached from underneath........i found it easier to raise and lower the car as needed to allow for room for reaching.....it sucks trying to reach back in the compartment when the car is 3 feet off the ground..... good luck with the whole thing.....sounds like a touchy problem....... broken bolt and all..

If you're gonna try from underneath you might have to drop the k-member just to have enough room. That job sounds rough though, good luck.

I agree on all drivers side bolts from the top. If the steering knucle is obscuring access then remove it. Just be certain not to turn the wheel while it's off and re-install exactly as it came off. I have heard that if the wheel has turned 180 degrees and the knucle installed it could have an effect on the SRS airbag system, not good. I R&R'd mine during header install with no problems.
