I oil mine.................lightly..very..lightly.. ALL the builders use a KN.filter. 
I have a K&N because it came with my car. Otherwise I'd probably just rock the paper filter. It look like the paper ones would do a better job trapping ****, but that's just me.

never really heard anybody getting there MAF messed up b.c of the oil,jus dont oil it so much.....
$65 is worth it, instead of buying a new paper filter every week or two...$5 builds up...

my car came with a k&n....after the 12k that i put on it it still looks clean, no black crud or build up of any kind and it still has that nice pinkish red color, like the center a rare steak, to it...lord only knows the last time it was cleaned, but it still looks new to me. no MAF problems, plenty of air flow, no debris in my intake or valley...can't argue with that

I have both to ease my laziness. I toss in the paper when i'm cleaning the K&N (always take a day or two when i get busy, forgetting and all)
I like the K&N, my pop's who has been a tech on race teams, worked for OEM's, and built plenty of diff platforms has used them forever. Why should I not trust them?

The only downside of the K&N is the potential for the oil to contaminate the MaF. Personally, I use one of the new EA filters from Amsoil. Good for 100k and no oil needed. Filters better than paper too.
