Revs high... then dies!!!! after Header install????

Default Revs high... then dies!!!! after Header install????

Last week i had longtube headers on my car and i had to smog it. So I put the stock exhuast manifolds back on and tuned it and the car was running fine. Got smogged and i put the headers back, but not the rest of the exhaust, and i decide to start it up and it just wants to rev up high and then die!!! Whats up with that? anybody have any ideas? I checked and re-checked all the little things e.i. spark plugs/wires, hoses, bolts. And everything seems fine. Im thinking it might be the tune? I havent messed with the tune at all since i put the headers back on, but i was thinking that the car should run on its own fine... well, run crappy, but NOT rev up high and die like it does!

You say you have headers back on but not rest of exhaust. Well your O2's are going to be almost in free air, they will tell the PCM to add more and more fuel, and the engine will eventually stall.

Did you mess with the throttle sensors at all?
Check the MAFS.
check the crank positionong sensor it is right behind the power steering pump on the block, in front of the first cylinder on the drivers side. Many times the wires are ripped or the sensor is cracked.

sounds like your running very rich like red ws6 said, if you run too rich at high rpms you'll flood the engine and stall it out

it was my damn EGR port of the manifold, it was loose and letting air in causing it to rev high and then just die.... damn the little things on these cars!!! if its not one thing its another

When I put my headers on, I had the whole exhaust hooked up (w/ a catted Y) and my car did that at first. I drove it around and it would almost stall out when I was at an idle so I parked it and shut it off, restarted it, and it was fine. I think it might be an internal engine diagnostic before it throws the code for the rear O2s???
