Have they resolved the problem with these banging the floor board yet? What are some pros and cons of these?

 

Banging the floor
Roasting oil filters
Binding steering
Rust/flaking

I am forgetting some...
With so many other companies making headers nowadays, you don't see folks getting FLPs. In turn, you don't see all the FLP horror posts like you used to.
For a long time a couple of header co.s had a lock on LS1 headers. FLP was one, for a few years I read post after post about the above problems.
Seems that folks are starting to forget.
There are plenty of headers to choose from today... Several with much better reps.
In the end, it is your choice.

Banging floor? Occasionally on the tunnel cross member...happens rarely and so haven't bothered to screw wit it *L*

Roasting oil filter? - Nope
Binding steering? - Nope
Rust/flaking? - Nope

Benefits? With the Hotcam, FLP's bumped me from 108mph trap speeds to 115+mph traps - still on stock heads/intake/MAF. Not bad IMO. Plus I can swap in cats or dual cutout ORPS in just minutes - will be testing those for track results this weekend.

Just my own personal experiences with FLP's - I'm more than happy with mine.

 

TTS is my other choice any pros/cons there?

 

My FLP's headers had serve me well for three years. Now these headers are run through duals with better results. Cheers

Could the aforementioned problems be attributed to early on with few companies around and a lot of people of varying skill levels-or lack of skills resulted in poor installations? I am trying to make a somewhat educated decision about which headers to go with and thank all of you for your experiences.

All I every read about FLP headers from you is you bashing them. Have you ever had a set? My set has none of the problems you mentioned. FLP has changed coating companies and it seems to have helped. Also, with the little things they have done over the years to try and fix the banging, etc. has helped. We are seeing fewer issues with them. Every header has issues since every F-body has different tolerances.

The only issue I have is my oil drain plug. But all I have to do is take my hand and push every so slightly after the collector and the plug is out. I have no clearance issues, banging, k-member scraping, etc. that some other headers have.

All headers have their pros and cons, people need to see what their requirements are and find the header that suits them best. I am glad I went with FLP and their customer support has been great.

 

I bought mine in December last year.

Banging = Yes drives me crazy
Roasted oil filter = yes
No access to oil drain plug = I use crow bar at the suggestion of FLP!!
Flaking = none for me!

These are great headers if you don;t mind that they are not made to fit my car.

 

I do not have the headers, but I have seen all the issues that come along with them. It seems as though some people have zero to no issues with them, while others can't live with them on their cars. FLP has tried to solve most the problems people are complaing about, and to me, the headers do offer some benefits. For one, removeable CATs/ORYPs is a big plus. No other company has this feature and it's reassurance that if I ever get busted by the men in blue, I can just switch in my cats. (though technically it's still not street legal but you could easily get by) On the other hand, there are far more LS1 headers available now, then when the FLP's came out. Kooks and QTP both offer stainless steel headers and seem to yeild some of the best gains out there. IMO I would go with one of the newer Header designs out there, like KOOKs for example . They've had the chance to improve upon others designs and offer some amazing gains

What about the uneven length of the primaries between the banks? Seems the passanger side has much longer primaries than the driver side. Isn't this an issue?

 

Same here except I had a little banging that took 5 minutes to fix.Had them 2 years and still look brand new

 

DO THE FLP'S WORK GOOD WITH A LOWERED CAR? DOES ANYONE HAVE A PIC OF THE KOOKS OR QTP'S?

 

I have the Eibach Prokit on my car. That's one of the reasons I when with the FLP'S. Clearence has never been an issue, just be careful going over the speed bumps. I have not experienced any of the other problems either. I love mine.

 

I've had 2 sets of FLP's. My 1st set banged the floorboard but that was it. The 2nd set I have right now is fine, no problems.
