that volant is really starting to look good to get rid of all these sealing issues...
my slp lid did this, i just used to small screws to hold down the back of the lid. make sure you dont drill the radiator.

Wait until the filter oil seeps into the glue on the seal.

The first K&N I got did not come with a seal and the pleats ran lengthwise. It would fall into the filter tray. That was the design back in '99.

Then, I had a Holley Powershot, it was a little too wide. I had to trim it.

I replaced the ill fitting Wisper MS lid with a SLP kit that came with the new gen K&N with the seal. It's better fit setup. But I'm sure the filter oil will have a bad effect on the glue holding the seal to the lid.

But I Agree, STOCK PAPER is the best way to go. No oil on the MAF.

(sigh) i say this in every paper>k&N thread i see...if people get oil on their MAF its because they use too much. just oil the bottom and let the air flow wick the oil thru the rest of the filter...obviously if you hose the thing down, then yes, oil is going to go everywhere. would you fill your engine with 12 quarts of oil and then blame gm when things didnt work out? no. just dont over oil the k&n and you're good to go.

ps. no matter WHAT filter you run, clean your MAF with every oil change...it's just a good maintainence habbit

The filter is enormous. Other cars that have a smaller filter gain more by going to the wet filters. There may be a small loss from going to paper. Like 2hp tops.

I've been using the the K&n/ Holly filters for a while. I know how to service them. I still get oil residue on my MAF. In my air filter cleaning routine, I have included Isopropyl and q-tips for cleaning the MAF every damn time. My next filter will be a dry one.

Amsoil states its their new nanofiber technology. The filters are supposed to trap more contaminants, and flow better then the paper filters, definitely stop more than the wet gauze filters. I picked one up to replace my old K&N. The part number is EAA-83. The filter fits in the lid/tray much better than my K&N. I did not notice any loss in SOTP feel after the switch.

No oil, can be cleaned with light air pressure, or a vacuum. I will probably inspect and clean every oil change...

In my experience, the paper filters seal better. With all the surface area, an oiled cotton filter won't make much more power, if any, over a paper style. You don't have to worry about cleaning and oiling, and you know you have a good seal.
