Default Do I need this piece?

I installed my AAP Y-Pipe this weekend and it hangs lower than the stock one. There is a brace that goes from one side of he car to the other that is bolted on right about where the Y-Pipe comes together. The pipe is trying to rest on that piece. It is not a big piece, maybe 24 inches. Do I need to keep this on the car? I would like to take it off to make more room for the pipe. On the other hand, I do not want to hurt thte car. Any help would be great.

You can lose it , specialy if you got sub frame connectors. (which you should)Bolt on's & double diamonds bolt up to this spot anyway.

OK, what if I don;t have them. I plan on getting them, just don't have them yet and I am not sure when I am going to get them. Is it still OK?

For now, without serious hook and HP you should be fine... handeling at high speeds or autocross would suffer a little as well as E/T's due to chasis flex. But at your current level I'd guess its very minimal.

So, I am assuming that SFC's would just eliminate the need for it completely. I am going to go ahead and get those as my next purchase. Thanks for all the info.

It's my understanding that that piece is supposed be more of a driveshaft safety loop than anything else. BMR and others sell a tunnel brace that gives more clearance for your pipe and adds some strength.

There is a simple solution to this (I had the same issue)

Buy 4 longer bolts and shim that piece with washers... It will never bang again, plus you keep the safety of the driveshaft loop. It is a $2 fix! (I also bent the exact spot where the pipe was rubbing for extra clearance)

This question has been asked several times before, my answer has been the same. If G.M. could eliminate just on small washer on a car they would, that brace is alot of washers. Keep it and get the longer bolts with enough washers to lower it so it doesn't hit the y-pipe.
