What is the advantae of the cat-back instead of just changing the muffler. I have no idea...thank for the help

There are a few things that are considered advantages.
Pipe collectors, Pipe Size, Pipe Route...ect. That link should fill you in about as well as I can as well.

Usually the cat back has better looking tips and larger diameter pipe.

Lots of cat backs dont have mufflers, alot have bullets. GMMG, LM, etc.

Mufflers are usually gonna be your restriction. However, magnaflow makes a nice crisp muffler that is a lot more tasteful sounding...it is stainless steel to boot. So it will never look like crap if you care about that type of thing as well.
