Exclamation Shorty Headers?? Please read.

Hey everyone. I found a kit from pacesetter that seems pretty bad ***. It's for 99 camaro(ls1). they are mid-tube (shorty) headers. you keep the cats in the stock location and it also comes with a 3" Y-pipe. the headers are ceramic coated, and i believe the Y is painted. you get all this for 480$ or so. Are shortys gonna give me just as much power gains as long tubes?? is this a good deal? If you guys could help me out, or even give me more info and advice, that'd be great. thanks fellas.

I doubt the shorties are much better then the factory manifolds. If I were going thru the trouble to install headers, I would replace the stockers with longtubes...

you get the small round ones...after the collector or about the same place on pass. side, and middle of door on dr. side...just get rid of them..if tuned right the engine is pretty efficient as is.

In this case, you can't beat Magnaflow 59959's:

They work awesome:

hey choco do you have any flanges in your exhaust? I see you have the cats welded straight to the collector on your headers, just thought that would make for a fairly hard in/uninstall with out a lift. Do your cats throw any codes?

Shortys are an option if your worried about ground clearance. You will have some gains, but not as much as LTs. I guess it depends on your performance goals. As for the cats, if you can get away with tuning them out, and still passing emissions testing, then I wouldnt even worry about them. As for the Diablo tuner. No it will not delete the rear O2 codes. Only clear them temp.

The y-pipe would have to be modified. I would suggest getting a custom y-pipe fabbed up.

His whole exhaust is welded. Do a search for his original post.

Your best bet is to find someone that will put those IN the Y pipe and not welded to the LTs. Just for future mods/dropping the tranny and such. Wouldnt be hard for a exhaust shop to weld those in the Y for you. I wouldnt have an entirely welded system like Chocos for that reason alone. No offense meant here either Choco.

I would just have a shop cut a section of the Y out, and place the highflows in there. That way you can still drop the Y out for tranny work without cutting/rewelding. O2s will still be ok.

No flanges, sadly. They're welded in. I made an assumption the shop would put clamps or flanges, that's what I get for assuming

I had the codes deleted so I don't throw any codes. Otherwise, I'd have an SES light. When it's time to uninstall, I'll just get them cut off and add flanges then.

My y-pipe is completely custom. You'll have to make your own if you want to use those cats...either that or get a prefabricated ORY and weld them in afterwards.

My cats are NOT in the stock location.
