Shorty Header Diameter I have an LS1 from an 01 T/A with 4L60E trans. I am installing this into a 1962 Chcvy II. The stock exhaust headers will not fit, so I have to install a set of shorty headers.
I know that I should install a set of long tube headers for the best performance gain, but because of clearance issues I will stick with the shorties. My question is do I use 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" diameter? The car will be a daily driver, and the motor will be left as it came from the factory.

I'd try the MACs first but go the 1 3/4 if nothing else.I believe BBK is the only company that makes 1 3/4" shorties. Pacesetter, Edelbrock, and Hookers are only 1 5/8" if I remember correctly. There was a guy on here a while ago that was trying to maximize his shorty set-up: BBK 1 3/4" shorties, 2.5' Y-pipe, and catback and with a tune I think he got almost 20 more RWHP out of them. Anyhoo...
