Once you check the resistance of your key, you can buy a new blank one on ebay and have it cut at the hardware store if you want an extra one .Thats what I did.

I know my local Ace had a reader. If not you need a ohmeter. One probe on each side of key on the little wire that runs in the middle of the little black pellet.Pick a new blank with the closest resistence and have it cut at the hardware store.

My light in my 01 silverado comes on occasionally when im driving and it runs/drives fine. only twice has it left me stranded though and usually i have to wait 15min for it to reset so i can start it. im thinking of just spending the money to get it fixed, just incase it doesnt start back up.

My security light is ALWAYS on and I'm able to turn my car over with the key/tumbler. I have to use a remote clicker...So ghetto but I can't figure out for the life of me what it is. Guess I need to replace the BCM and the tumbler/key.... Or, just hotwire a push button start, eh?

It could be as simple as either pushing the key in further or pulling it out a little bit. I've noticed this issue a couple times and looked down and saw that the key wasn't fully seated in the ignition switch. I simply pushed it in another 1/8" and the light went away in a matter of minutes while driving.

Default VATS Stole my Car!

2002 Camaro v6 auto

I just picked it up for cheap because the previous owner got locked out by the VATS system. He said that it happend right after he was trying to install a stereo.

Today I started sorting through the mess of wires, I think ive figured out which are stereo, but theres a blue wire and a green/white wire and im not sure if they are part of the stereo harness or what. There is also a red and black plug that has no apperant plače to go and doesnt really look factory but idk.

The car cranks great but definatly sounds like its starving for gas....thanks VATS

The light stays on solid, doesnt blink.

I would start by bypassing the VATS with a couple resistors but Im guessing the problém has do do with the wiring and not the key or ignition switch/tumbler.

where are all the VATS components Located? I want to trace all the wires and make sure nothing got hacked or pulled out. Schematic Anyone? Can I take voltage readings anywhere to try to trouble shoot?

Heres some pictures of what im looking at...tomorrow im gonna pull the steering wheel and get a look at the VATS wiring at the key as ive read this is common...

HELP PLEASE!

I think you'd have a better chance of addressing your problem in the Stereo and Electronics forum.
