The reason people use a paper filter is due to the fact that the K&N and Holley type filters require the use of their proprietary lubricant. This can cause driveability issues if there is excess oil used on the filter, it get's sucked off of the filter and trapped on the MAF sensor element.

that's why your just supposed to oil the one outer side of the filter

NOT the inner side... and then there's no problem...

Don't you wish people would read the instructions better. I've seen filters almost dripping with oil.
