Default Exhaust Cutouts Need Help

I want to hear the pros and cons of a electric cutout vs. Manual cutout. My car is bone stock.
1.Where is the best place to put it?
2.Should I put it right after the cat?
3. Will it sound like trash? With my car being stock.
4. Will I have any HP gain when it is open?
Any other input would be greatly apperciated.

1. if youre just getting one, put it in the area right below teh rear seat.
2. see #1, and then remove your cats
3. no, but trash is your opinion, some people think one thing sounds good, others dont, i like cutouts, other people dont. some people actually like JDM or whatever theyre called mufflers
4. since your car is stock, not a ton, but you should feel it. get some headers and a lid, then a stall

Electric for starters.........put it in the I -pipe, right under the rear passenger seat.....there is actually an indentation right there...you will see...best place for it---being stock, and having cats ..it will still be alot louder than your car is now...I did it back then, then removed the cats...real louder...then headers and ory.really..really..loud now.

On a stock car its a waist of money from a performance stand point. My 570Rwhp SS gained 1 Rwhp and lost 4 Rwtq with the cut out over the closed Hooker cat back. Some cars will gain more than others but for a stocker its a waist IMO.

Your car will sound like a Dump truck, some like the dump truck sound though.

I think the best place is just before the axle on the passenger side where the floor board is raised.

I have done both. I will only tell you that I now have a manual one. I played with it too much and in turn burned up the motors on mine. Turns out that I always wanted to have them open anyway.

Maybe it's just me but wouldn't a car with a very restrictive exhaust, ie. stock, gain the most from a cutout? The reason people don't gain much is they have a very free flowing exhuast all ready. I'd put money on it that if someone had long tubes into a y-pipe with a cutout right at the y, then a 2" exhaust with the biggest muffler possible after that they'd gain huge amounts with the cutout open. This is an extreme scenario but I think you'll get the point.

The stock exhaust even with the converters doesnt flow bad at all and is more than enough to support a stock motor.

When it comes to exhaust I would save my money and buy some long tubes.

Purchasing the headers is not the problem... it is installing them that is what gets me. I know nothing about cars but willing to learn.. I just dont want to pay for a shop to install them when I should be able to do it myself. I am a ... dont want to screw up my daily driver

Trust me after a cutout and a few other easy mods you will eventually get to needing headers! So in the mean time read everything you can about the install process and get familiar with everything your going to need for the install. There is a ton of information on this site an alot of guys who are willing to help with any questions you may have. Trust me if I can do it you can. I went with a DMH electric cutout but im still waiting for it to come in the mail!!!!!!! I cant wait.

I'll bet there is someone in your area that has done long tubes. Post up in the regional forums and ask for some help. Buy a case of beer and throw some headers on that thing. You will be much happier in the long run. And you'll learn something in the process...

The search feature is awesome. The pros and cons are pretty obvious. The e-cutout you hit a switch its done, its easy to use, you have to wire it, the motor could go out. Manual cutout ,you have to undo it, the block off plate gets hot so know when you want it off, no motor to go out, cheaper save some money for more mods.

With a few bolt-ons see sig, before porter TB I dynoed 11 more HP with cut out opened on stock SS cat back. $35. for cut out and $20. to get it welded, one of my best bang for the buck mod. I currently have QTP electric opener on now PITA crawling under car to open and close. Have gone mid 12's w/ out headers-full weight, Nittos, stock clutch, 1.89 60'.
