Long Tube Headers
So that is what BS stands for.I stand by what I said because I have this setup on my CAR. I've ran 12.76@108.4 mph in cool weather. The G2 Y-pipe and flow cats are much much cheaper and will give Ulooseagain similar gains with his setup.
I never said that LT are no good, but unless u heavily Mod ur engine (ie cam and heads) u don't need to spend the money. For 500$ or so you can run NOS with better gains than just an LT mod.
You essentially said, LT's werent't worth it without internal mods. The original question says nothing about LT's "by themselves."
LT's are a building block and become more effective with each mod, including bolt-ons & dynotuning. Further, headers require a new Y-pipe, so that goes almost without saying. My mods would not have been a 41hp gain w/o LT's. A dyno tune on my mods and dynotune w/o LT's would have gotten me maybe 15+/- horses. Sure, the dynotune enhanced my headers, but without the headers, that dynotune would have gotten my car very little.
To me, anyone interested in headers for now or the future is very unwise to spend money on a y-pipe that won't work with their new headers. The aftermarket Y's should be primarily for those who are concerned about emissions, or those wha don't want to risk their warranty at all or those who'll never consider headers anyway.
And to answer another question, you can get LT's installed for $300 to $400 dollars depending on the going rate in your area. If you get real lucky, you might find someone from an area F-bod club to help you out for a nominal fee or favor in return.
Mine does.
That's something for Ulooseagain to think about.
Yes, LT's is a necessary mod for pure racers, but for the street u have to think LAW.
If u can't drive ur car daily legally, u ain't a street racer, ur a law braker.
Anyway it works for me. The man will make his own mind

ABSOLUT I run it, I know!!!!!
Also, I stated in my first post that I had had dynotuning done. So I wasn't hiding that. I'm just trying to convey that headers can get you a LOT of horsepower on stock internals, though it will require ATAP or LS1edit to maximize their effectiveness.
Mark!
They rock! I just installed Jet-Hots this week it was a PITA but I did it, essentially by myself. (the help didn't know anything about what was going on just what I told them)You can do it yourself to save the $350-$400. They give good power, and as has been said, only help all other mods to achieve their maximum potential. I bet I will make 20 rwhp or more on my 1998 with the headers/cats/Y-pipe AND I am also betting that I will pass emissions b/c they now just plug into the computer. Plus I will have cats anyway. I would consider Headers (mid or long) required for anything but a ver simple bolt-on car.
QTP's (prob the best header but a long wait)
Kooks (maybe just as good as QTP's no wait)
Jet-Hots (fancier version of the Hookers)
Hookers ( the orginal hooker design LT)
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Sure as long as it is the same stock car AND THE ONLY DIFFERENCE is one car got LT and mine has Hi flo cats with G2 Ypipe.
I'll bet money on that !

The discussion was never about whether having LT is a waste NOOOO, au contraire the more mods u have the better they perform.
The discussion was that with only 2 mods (AIR LID, HOoker Exhaust) on an otherwise stock 99 TA. LT\s would not produce that much more power than stock manifolds+ HI Flo Cats+G2 2.75' Y pipe+ Hooker Exhaust.
I've seen it before at a dyno with my own eyes and one of the cars was mine.
Not to mention that the price dif is about half. That's it
set up arrives, (with emissions by the way) I will be doing up those LTs and a TCI super street fighter, transgo shift kit and tranny cooler all in my garage. I am truely amazed at the lengths that people will go to to squeeze blood out of turnips,-popular question on this board revised-What is the cheapest way for me to go fast and look good and get hot chicks? This is your LS1, make it scream with your own style and don't be down on other LS1 Brothers for the way they accomplish it.
