And, by the way, don't confuse upgrades with the correction of defects.

Let me put it in a positive way: How do you think your business reputation on would be affected on this board if your dad had replied as follows:
"If you're a previous XS customer, we might be willing to offer some consideration on the purchase of the new Y-pipe. PM me when you go to purchase the new Y-pipe."
I say it's a positive for you. "LPP really takes care of their customers."
Im sure Dad will take care of people. Hes a good guy when it comes to that. I was just stating a point about it shouldnt be demanded that when someone redesigns a product that people should be compensated. he makes next to nothing for all the R&D, cutting and designing of new stuff and all the work that goes into it. We've taken many sets of headers and Ys on and off his car to try to make things work. To offer much of a discount on what comes out, itll have to come out of his pocket, meaning that hell be giving headers away and paying for it out of his pocket (like for every set that sells, he has to pay X amount of money out of his own pocket). This isnt his business, this is a side thing and helping the LS1 community. We both have day jobs (in construction) and he does all this on his weekends and at night when he gets home (all the selling, shipping, redesigning, PMs, board questions, etc). Hes seen all the stupid prices I used to pay when I would build my car and he wanted to offer a service where there wasnt a 100% markup just for what it is. Im sure he could double his price for the headers and Y and make a killer profit just like all the big names since the manufacturing process is the same, but thats not his intentions.

It sucks when you buy something, and turn around and it's either cheaper or better, but that's life. I bought a TV at costco on the 24th of december and on the 29th it was $50 cheaper. I didn't have my receipt with me, and by the time I called on January 2nd, they were sold out. The $50 off was because it was a closeout item. It sucks, but what can you do.
big company or no, if it's a price increase, there should be a little room to work with with people who have previous versions when the company knows they're unsatisfactory to many, but will work in the mean time.
I have no real complaints about the current one because it does work... but if I had my choice I'd take the new one in a heartbeat... and to be honest, what am I going to do with two y-pipes? no one will buy them I'm certain.
I think all the remarks above are somewhat beside the point. Small/large, factory/garage, oil prices/steel prices, it really doesn't matter.
IMO, it is a matter of good business practice - really, good marketing. I don't meant to suggest you have an obligation.
It wouldn't come at a huge cost to you. You wouldn't be inundated with previous customers expecting freebies. Most have already worked out solutions and moved on. But there might be a small number who'd like to upgrade. Accommodating them as I suggested above would increase their customer satisfaction and speak well of your company to others - at a small price to you.
Speaking personally, I really like the look of the new Y. But I can't see paying full price for a new one when I've already purchased one and it's sitting in my basement.
