EGR or no EGR, that is the question....
I just ordered a non-EGR LS6 intake for my 2000 TA. (I originally ordered an EGR model, but I waited over 2 months and it never came in!)
Anyways, I have LS1Edit, along with my mods listed below... so I can easily edit the EGR out.
Three questions:
1. Does the EGR system even matter on my car as far as function goes due to the different cam, exhaust, and intake setup? In other words, will I tend to detonate more without the EGR setup?
2. I live in NY, do they "look" for a working EGR system during inpection? (They do the sniffer under a load test in NY)
Thanks for the info.
Tommy
PS I guess I cam Jerry rig some kind of EGR fitting into the new LS6 manifold if I have to, but I'd rather not bother if it doesn't make sense.

First of all, as far as I know, EGR is only functional when the car is cold, and then stops working when the car reaches normal operating temperatures. Like I said I don't know this for a fact, cause I also heard the same thing about the AIR system.
In NY they don't have a way for you to just hook up to the OBDII diagnostics? If they do, that would be the way to go. Then let edit do the work(make sure not to make any Edit changes at least two weeks prior to the test). Even so if anything is gonna fail you it's gonna be your cam. A visual inspection probably won't matter as 01/02 F-Bodies don't come with EGR. You can't expect an emissions employee to know the correct emissions setup of every car that could possibly come in there. As long as there's no code, he won't know and won't care.
I as able to pass MD inspection without EGR or AIR. they did the gas cap pressurization test , then hooked me up to the diagnostics port and 5 seconds latter I passed! Now NY rules might be different. But see what all you can get away with.

I was under the impression that under part throttle, the EGR is workfig, even with the car warmed up. I think it helps reduce NOx emissions, and also lowers combustion temps (by injecting spent air into the intake) but who the hell knows how my cam is going to effect all of this... It seems that if you cut a cam the right way, you do not need an EGR system (ie. Vette). I think the overlap on the cam has a lot of to with this.
It's just a PITA having to worry about putting this stuff back on before inpection time...
