EGR, take it off?
....I read up on what it does and it says if it will cause pinging. Well i always pump 91 cheveron fuel and it pings at high RPM's sometimes. I use octane booster to eliminate it but sooner or later it comes back. Could the EGR be cause this pinging. why?
And should i just take it off or leave it on since im getting headers? HELP.
THANKS GUYS.
EGR lowers exhaust temps to reduce NOx emissions. This is done by adding used exhaust gases back into the cylinder before combustion. Running no EGR will cause higher combustion temps which could lead to knock. If this happens, the knock sensor picks it up and backs off timing.
Just noticed you live in Cali. You probably won't pass emissions without egr. I don't know much about IM over there, except they're strict.

The EGR valve is only open during light throttle mid range RPM driving and actually decreases the chance or spark knock when operating right. Since your in CA and you might not always have someone to get you through insp I'd leave it on. It's not costing you a thing power wise.
My vote is to stay legal. The cost in power is negligable and it might save you money and problems in the future.
