Need help with smooth bellows FAST!!!
Ok, I started a thread about making my own smooth bellows.
home made smooth bellows
I bought the 3" to 3" fernco piece. Today I went with a buddy and tried to install it. I finally got the piece to go over the throttle boddy using some bute force, hair dryer, wd-40, and a lot of cursing. I thought the hard part was over but when I went to connect it to the maf, I couldn't. It looks like it needs to be angled upward so it can fit. I am stuck and don't know what to do. Someone please help me figure out how to get this to work.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that i did the free ram air mod before I tried to install bellows. This mod definatlly helped. I feel a good difference in throttle response and when getting on it at high speed.

dalemx, I would go with that but I already bought this and I really like the way it looks. I've seen it on someones camaro in person and it looked a lot better than the one you showed with big hump in it. I really need advice on how to get this to work right. Thanks anyways.

Re: Need help with smooth bellows FAST!!!
I would suggest reconsidering the one that DaleMX is talking about. The Fernco mod can break your air lid when your engine torque's. Someone may suggest installing a torque strap or new motor mounts but that is really a lot of work when the solution is a hump hose. The hump hose is more pliable and will not cause any damage to your lid. So you could spend less than 15.00 or 80-120 for a new lid later on. If you insist in using the fernco then stick it in the microwave for about 1-2 min and it will slip right on (wear gloves it will be hot).

I just put my 3" furnco tube on today. Just take a razor knife and taper the end that attaches to the throttle body so that it angles up and then shave about 1/8" around the inside so that it slides on nicely.

*edit*
thanks blackhawk. I'll try what you said and I'll microwave it alittle bit. Hopefully that will do the trick. Any more suggestions?

Hold the bellows in place, mark the angle needed for the slash cut of one end (I believe I trimmed the MAF end of the bellows). Using an X-Acto knife, trim the bellow at the angle needed. Use the ring clamp as a guide for a straight cut. Trim a little at a time till the fit fits (trim too much and you'll have a fit!). Good luck!

Re: Need help with smooth bellows FAST!!!
After you microwave it just shove it on all the way. Now, start pulling it off the bottom lip of the throttle body until you get the desired angle. This worked perfectly for me but if you have to angle it too much just cut a notch in the top of the fernco so you can slide it past the divider thingy(hope I am not getting too technical) at the 12 oclock position on the throttle body.
I never had a problem with my lid breaking or cracking but you may want to keep an eye on things for a while just to make sure.

Thanks a lot guys. I was able to get it to go on today by following what no catzz said. I t got on the throttle body pretty easilly but I did have to cut alittle notch in it. I'll keep an eye on it. After a test run with a couple of wot spurts, it was still on there good and the lid was fine. I'll keep watching but hopefully it will be fine.
