i have a 2001 SS A4. I already have longtubes, ORY, TSP rumbler catback, and a lid. only have about $225 to spend since money's tight right now and was wondering if i should buy a sub-frame connector or a FTRA. Heard great things about both just wanting others opinions because i can't make up my mind. or if you have another idea throw it out there.

 

Subframe connectors should be the first aftermarket part you buy, I am sure anybody will agree with that.

 

i was leaning more toward the subframes since the FTRA doesn't make power til about 40 mph.

 

yep ftra help on the hwy and on top end but i would get a p&p tb that would help.

 

i say save your money for a TC or gears....

SFC's and P&P TB will run right around $225. Just ordered my SFC thru WS6store for $150 and did a P&P TB thru a member here.

 

of what's listed the subframes are a pretty good. but factor in that you need to get the weld in's and actually have someone weld those up for you.

but i really agree with Teke. just save up for something bigger and better. Id get the stall, I have a Yank ss3500 in my garage right now that's begging to go in, but its gotta wait on H&C to get here

 

maybe some used drag radials

 

whats wrong with bolt on subframes? and i've been told not to put gears in a stock 10 bolt to just wait and get a 12 bolt since the 10 bolt will break.

 

SFC most def.

 

bolt ins are OK. but bolts can come loose or bend. weld ins are just a lil' better, they stay put.

 

yeah im in the same situation as you, im just wondering if the moneys gonna be worth it for sfcs.

 

Im new at this website and dont know how to start a new thread. I have a 2000 camaro z28 and i already have a side pipe exhaust on it which was custom. I want more power and im going to order and intake manifold thorttle body and i just got my mass airflow sensor in. I want a cam but i dont want a strip one i have an automatic car and want something that sounds good with power but also have a nice sorta smooth idle. Please let me know what cam to get and what modifications need to be done with it and wat thorttle body adn intake manifold.

the reason i like the bolt ins originally is because i can bolt them in first then later down the road i could weld them in. Would gears be a good idea for a stock A4 transmition? i want to get 3:73's but not really sure what to get. cam questions should go in the internal engine forum, you will get much better answers there.

Since your not going for a track car, I'd say just get a ported stock TB(a couple of members do it on here, just look around, maybe do a search) and a LS6 intake should be all you need(depending on year of your car, 01+ came stock with a LS6 intake)

i think when you hear the "dont pour money into your ten bolt" saying, its not so much gears, more at getting a posi or just building it up in general, getting gears for a ten bolt is fine i think, still your ten bolt will break, but most of us have to make a little more than bolt-on power before we start to worry about that

 

gears are ALWAYS a good upgrade. they will really wake up an auto trans car.

gears are intrinsically weaker due to smaller teeth, but as with anything on these cars...some guys get 1000s of HARD miles on thier rears...others blow them in days.

assuming you can maintain traction, gears alone could give you a .2 or .3 sec advantage in the 1/4mi.

same with a stall...

 

if i buy a set of 3:73's would all i need is a ring and pinion set? this is the one i was looking at http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...4d260febfbb564. Is that all i would need to buy then just take it to my local shop or is there more to it?

should just need the ring/pinion, gasket, and fluid. wouldn't be a bad idea to install a stud kit and girdle to beef up the rear.

but that's increasing the cost.
