Default Engine Swap Question

Heys guys. I have a 2000 WS6 and unfortunately, it has developed a pretty significant knock. It's been having a series of problems, one after another, so I've decided it's time to invest in a new engine. I've decided to go with an LS6 engine. Now is my question: I don't have a lift and I'm looking to do the swap myself. I was wondering if there are any difficulties that I'd run into. Has anyone here taken the engine out from the top with a cherry picker instead of dropping it from the bottom? I really don't want to pay the 1400 for the swap considering it's already a pretty big investment for a 21 year old in college. Well guys, let me know. Thanks again.

Jeff

I took motor and trans (T56) out from the top. Everything was off except the heads and it took a little time but it was pretty easy

you can drop it through the bottom with a cherry picker.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. I hope it works out LoL Never taken an ls1 out from the top. It's kind of intimidating.

dont take it out the top...if it was me, take the 15 min and pop the front bumper off. Take the foam pad off. Put a chain right around the bumper support, you wont hurt it. When its all ready to come out, put a block of wood under the trans unbolt the frame and jack away put 2 jack stands under it move ther cherry picker and just roll the motor and trans out. Good luck with which ever way you do it.

btw you dont have to take the harness off, it unplugs under the dash board in the kick panal, take the computer out by the strut and youll see it.
