Default Open Exhaust Question

I have a stock 00 Z28, I was curious what a cutout would be like so I unbolted the the exaust after the cat. It was loud but I had no power at all off the line. Why do people run cutouts, is it having LT's that make it work. Just curious.

I have Jet Hot LT's on my car with two 3" cutouts right after them. If I close them and it runs the rest of the way though the stock muffler I loose 25hp. However if I open them up I get that 25hp back. Plus I LOVE the sound of wide open exhaust!

most peoples cut outs arent right after the cats either. and if you have a restrictive exhaust, a cutout is a great option.

and you must have a RIDICULOUSLY restrictive exhaust to gain 25hp from open cutouts. that number must be a LITTLE exaggerated

I was told that with a cut out open you lose hp down low but gain hp mid-high in the rpm range. How many people race and are in the 1k-2.5k rpm range for more than a spit second? In your situation it may be hurting you beacuse of the lack of back pressure needed for your stock cam. For me i like the sound and the added hp when i really need it!

You lose some low end torque so it feels slower, you should gain top end HP and actually run quicker. A 2.73 geared auto may or may not be quicker though, because they really need the low end TQ
