Default TSP TD problems...

any one have any problems with blowing header gaskets with tsp td's?...

i have kooks 1 3/4 headers flanged(3 bolt), and the TSP kit flanged(3 bolt) and welded up.
I've been having problems with blowing the driver side header gasket. was wondering if its from where the td kit hangs on the header...

Try torquing the header down properly if you aren't already. Start from inside bolt out, alternating sides, 11ft-lbs 1st pass, 22ft-lbs second pass. What gaskets are you using? When you torque down the header, remove the TDs and try it, then just bolt the duals up and go from there.

i have used fel-pros, percy's carbons, and new stockers...

i torque them from inside out, run the car for 2-3 mins let it cool the re torque them...but td's are attached..im gonna take the td's off tomorrow and check over all the welds on them to see if theres a leak there and im gonna remove the header to make sure there isn't a stress crack somewhere, might as well check the flange trueness aswell....

when you installed the TDs did you try to force the tips up higher at the rear to try to gain more clearance? i noticed that when i tried to tuck them up higher it stressed the headers and i could see the headers flex, so i just mounted the mufflers so that i didnt have any stress on the headers......

also i recommend using the stock metal gaskets over the crappy papper ones.

if there ment for crappy pacesetters, then there shouldn't be any problems with kooks...

never used a paper gasket... when i mounted them they had dynomax bullets, i removed the dynomax's and put spiral flows on it so i had just welded the hangers so i could allow for more clearance. everything seems to be level. just has always puzzled me how the whole exhaust is held by two rear hangers...

Did you have to pry it into place? If so you might have some side load that is contributing to its failure.

I have noticed that header bolts loosen more, and gaskets blow more with True Duals. It could be coincidence, but the more the exhaust scraped the ground the more often the bolts loosen and gaskets blow.

hmmm.. cut the flanges off of both of them and have the exhaust pipe expanded so it will slide over header collector... get some nice stainless band clamps and have no more issues...EVER!!

Hmmmm, your headers could possibly be warped & be a contributing factor for the frequently blown gaskets too.

well when you don't retorque the bolts when you do the initial install (me being an idiot), then drive an hour and a half to the track run 2 times, blow the gasket. Then have to drive home with the gasket blown and the bolt loose. I should have known it was warped i just neglected to check it. So hear i am 4 header gaskets later.....

pacesetters are still crap....
