Stainless Headers..Are they all the same?
QTP's use a Flowmaster Y which is one of the best flowing out there. They are not SS steel but that is not a big deal to me. Some say the Y fits great and I have heard others complain. I am not worried about it and have it all sitting at home. It tucked nicely on the car it came off of
1. Headers that fit great
2. Headers that install easily
3. Headers with fully welded merge collectors and scavenger spikes (that we'll gladly size for special applications)
4. Headers made with "ONLY" U.S. made 304 S/S
5. A fully customizable 304 S/S Y-Pipe that actually fits.
6. A Y-Pipe with a true 2 into 1 merge.
7. A Y-pipe with great ground clearance.
8. Virtually indestructable 200 metallic substrate cats.
9. Primary options from 1-3/4" to 2"
10. Customer service that places the customers needs first.
11. A header system that best defines the saying, "You will get what you pay for."
Hope this helps a few make up their minds.

Are all headers equal, by all means no. But is one header design far superior to others? I don't think so. So why spend $500 more on something that doesn't nec. fit all that better and and doesn't prove to have that much more power?!?

...Anyway, YOU need to decide on whether you want AIR and EGR. If you live in an area with strict emissions, you will probably want to keep them. I would guess that most people buy them without except for the people in California where emissions are tight. Most people delete them to clean up the engine bay and allow room to work on the engine like when changing spark plugs.
Tuning after any big mod will help. I ran really rich after I put the headers on so a tune would have picked up some power after it was leaned out again. A handheld programmer is useless in my opinion. I would suggest that you find someone who does tuning in your area- go on a local board and see if someone is willing to tune your car on the street with HPTuners or the like. I would probably invest in a cam or heads/cam first before I do any tuning unless you are going to be done with the mods for a while. Everytime you do a mod it changes the tune a little so try to do as much as you can all at once or close together to limit how many times you have to retune.
As far as all headers being the same- I haven't looked in a couple of years but when I was headers and cam only, I remember Kooks and QTP headers picking up anywhere from 10-15rwhp over SLP Long Tubes or MAC midlengths. I see Hooker Headers are the big thing now because they are cheap on ebay. They may not be the best but they may be the best bang for the buck. I spent $1400 on my QTP's with a 4" into 3" Y-pipe and dual 3" cutouts. I think you can pick up the Hooker Headers and Y-pipe for $550-600??
Good luck- Mike.
