Default Exhaust leak woes!

The engine is a 383 LT1..

So it seems my header gaskets are somehow leaking exhaust, is this possible due to the gaskets being old? Or perhaps not being torqued down correctly?

When I'm under the hood and trigger the throttle, a nearly overwhelming gust of exhaust hits me from around the headers. The car literally smells like 1969 and after bein' in it for about 20 minutes, I will literally reek of exhaust to the point where I can smell it in the air as I'm walking. Not to mention it runs like poo after leaving open loop mode(about 4 minutes of running nearly perfectly) . Could the leak have fouled the 02's?

The car is cammed w/ comp roller rockers and the engine has a very tickity tick tick noise up in the front, could this also be the leak? All of the other H/C cars I've heard have never had the level of engine noise my car has, which is why I ask. It can even be heard well over the supercharger whine, which is banshee-like.

Now if it turns out I do need to get new gaskets in there, where can I pick them up at a competitive price? The dealer usually kicks me in the teeth with parts so if I can find a good price elsewhere, I'd love a suggestion.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes the ticking noise is most likely an exhaust leak. They could be leaking for many reasons. Replace the header gaskets and makes sure all the bolts are torqued down and not backing out. The bolts have most likely backed themselves out and caused your leak, common with headers.

Thanks for the advice I will check that tomorrow morning.

You're in Utah? Clearfield, no less. I'm surprised you haven't seen my car before, lol. What do ya drive? I'll shoot you a rev if I see you.

Oh and is there a specific # and order I should torque the bolts down to?

Anyone else with some advice to add?
