" Could it be possible something is arching to something grounded somewhere?"

sure it's possible but doesn't fit your consistent results. Runs for 2-5 seconds and dies.

More I think about this the more I'd be making sure VATS was disabled regardless of what they told you. Have someone local check it out.

Can you determine if vats is off with a scan tool? or do you need something like LS1edit?

I can see it in my HPTuners. I'm assuming a scan tool would see it as a code being thrown with regards to 'theft deterrent'.

HpTuners.com has some good stuff in the forum about VATS. Some have had it disabled in the PCM but the ignition cylinder is another part of the VATS.

yea, thats interesting cause it sounds like there is more than one part to vats, didn't know that. well, this next week I will take it into a shop and have it scanned, and hopefully either it will tell me something or the guy scanning it will say I'm a dumbass and don't have something hooked up right.
I am also going to try starting it without the MAF plugged in and see if it does anything different. Also double check the fuel pressure while its firing, making sure it stays up, which I thought it did when I checked it this weekend.

Thanks for the input guys. Will let you know if theres any progress.

Alright, I was just thinking that if everything is checking out, and I have everything as it should be, but just by chance my fuel was the problem... Can the stock fuel regulator go bad? The one on the fuel rail where it splits the fuel to both sides. Or, could it be possible that when it was being shipped something got in the fuel rail before I hooked it all up? (I think the fuel inlet to the rail was not blocked off when I received it). If there was something in there resisting the flow in the fuel rail to one side, I can see how this would cause my problem. Cause fuel would get used up in the 2-3 seconds in the fuel rail then starve and cut out. Any easy way to test this?

I was thinking about a possible scenario... Could the placement of the fuel pressure regulator (before vs after the fuel rail) cause an improper reading of fuel pressure, therefore allowing the engine to cut out and starve for fuel? Would putting the regulator and gauge before the fuel rails cause a improper reading?

I would say at this point you may want to ask those questions in the fuel section AND the conversion section. Out of my realm.

I didn't read the whole tread but someone said maybe a bad crank sensor.. You said you unplugged it and tried it but it wouldn't crank then..

If your crank sensor is good you might want to try your cam sensor.. Mine started crapping out and giving somewhat similar symptoms but not as severe... Mine would start from time to time and run funny until the computer re-learned wtf was going on.. haha.. my speedo was also going ape **** due to it.??

yea, I thought crank is probably for sure good, but cam could possibly be bad cause when I unplugged it and cranked it, nothing really changed.
So, crank was definitely different... cam was not much different... Possible cam sensor then? I will maybe double check this one, and see what it reads when I do the scan. I don't know if a bad cam sensor would shoot a code, but when I read the codes nothing came up.

I don't have words to describe how I'm feeling right now. I just started up the LS1 for the first time.... I just came home to work on the car and to relocate the regulator to after the fuel rail instead of before, where I had it. It worked! Started right up!

I am so happy right now!

Thanks for all the help and response guys, I really appreciate it. I should have posted my problem a long time ago, but I'm just glad to have it working now.

Thanks everyone.
