Descreening the stock MAF, pros and cons

Descreening the stock MAF, pros and cons I've seen alot of different opinions over time on this, and I'm wondering what the real deal is. Who has done this, was there a noticeable change, and did it screw anything up?
Re: Descreening the stock MAF, pros and cons I ported polished and de-screened mine, including the center plastic section and no problems yet. I noticed a gain in performance

Re: Descreening the stock MAF, pros and cons it will lean out the car some and give you a little more spark advance......so it "can" give you a little more performance.....
BUT...
the lean out and the extra advance can also cause knock so...if you already have knock problems, don't do it....

Re: Descreening the stock MAF, pros and cons In the high RPM's the car will sound like marbles in a glass jar. It sounds really bad but remember some knock you may not be able to hear.
Benefits are more power in some cases. Cons are knock and possibly tip in stumble in some cars. The problem is each is different so you can't paint with a broad brush. FWIW, I used ported MAF ends for years and switched back when I did tuning at the request of the tuner.
