Default How to check coil packs?

I think I may have a bad coil pack. Does anyone know how to check the packs? Can you ohm them or something to determine their condition?

What leads you to believe you have a bad one? Knowing this can lead to a more simple and direct method of checking in different situations

Yes, it is possible to check the resistance across the primary and secondary windings to get a good idea if they are good or bad. Somewhere floating around there is a chart listing the standard resistance levels for both primary and secondary with a range for hot and cold (since temperature does affect the resistance).

But, like Jesse said...sometimes posting the issues you're having and reasons you suspect the coil(s) might be bad can help diagnose your problems. Are you seeing any DTC's (service engine light)? If so, what is the numbers of the code(s) being thrown?

Most GM coils I've measured seem to be between 6k and 10k ohms on the secondary side. It seems to be more important that they're all the same (within a couple hundred) than right on spec. If one is off it can give a miss especially under load. Measure from a primary wire to the tower.

I don't actually have any car problems or symptoms. I've got a friend whom bought a set of coil packs and wants to check them to ensure he bought coils that work before using in his motor buildup.

Any thoughts?

I know one of my coils is bad. My primaries(C+D) are all close to the same. I can't get any reading from any pins to the wire tower. Anyone have any ideas what to measue next?
